I'm glad you asked

Since Andy is only posting frivolous entries now, someone had to share the news that his contract at work was extended for another 3 months, until April 30, 2008. I'm sure you are all wondering how this impacts our plans to move back to Ottawa right? Well, Andy did 'negotiate' the option of giving 2 weeks notice at anytime, so if an opportunity comes my way, we will certainly re-evaluate. In the mean time, the extra income is helping us chip away at credit card debts (AMEN lol) and for the first time in 4+ years, I am happy with our financial position There's still work to be done, but we're making really really good progress! My bonus money and over-time pay (150 hours accumulated in 3 months - yes it was a crazy time before Christmas!) helped us along tremendously in that department.

While I'm on the work topic, I will be travelling to Quebec City in early March for the Bank's Annual Meeting of Shareholders. My flight is booked!
Update from Tina...

Hi Guys,

This is probably the hardest post that I have ever made to this site. I am just here to give you a quick update...

After numerous tests - x-rays, scans, blood tests, biopsies, consultations with many specialists and everything else in between, my father has been diagnosed with a form of lung cancer. He is in hospital (has been since Dec 24th.) and he is really having a rough go of it. We are waiting to hear what type of lung cancer he has (more results to come) before they can ascertain what form of treatment will be most effective and appropriate in treating him. One more experienced doctor has given us a poor prognosis while another younger physician reporting under him is being more optimistic about my Dad's fate. The information that we are having to sort through and process is very incredibly complex, technical and not easy to comprehend for those not schooled in the area of medicine. But we are learning as we go along and hoping that a miracle is just around the corner for my Dad's future.

This has simply been the most devastating turn of events for our family and it really feels surreal at times given the seriousness of my Dad's illness. My Dad's situation changes daily so this has us waiting with baited breath with every visit by his side, every phone call and every consultation with his physicians and nurses. Not only is he battling cancer, but he is in isolation with the MRSA virus (a potentially deadly superbug for those with suppressed immune systems) so we have to garb up in gowns, masks and gloves every time we go in to see and care for him. This infection, I'm told, is commonly found in hospitals and something that patients can contract by simply being in hospital and in contact with hospital staff while admitted for extended stays. So this has complicated Dad's situation a bit and, as a result, the staff are being even more vigilant with his vital signs and changes in status. I ..

Well, assuming that I pass all my credits until then of course, but the way things are going so far I highly doubt I'll have a probem with that!
don't buy used from walkley nissan

When it rain it pours. First, I got rear ended, the car gets written, i get screwed by "the personal" insurance company. So what's next?

I now have $5500 from the insurance company. Time to find a deal a throw common sense and everything you've every been told out the window. I've been told never buy used from a dealer.

So, I spend most of the day looking at those used car lots. See a couple of cars that are ok. Of course they are used and all have something wrong with them.

I have a friend who works at a dealership who said to see him last so he could have the opportunity to beat the best deal I had. So I left there resolved that I would probably do a personal sale, knowing that that is what I should do anyway. So Duana and I are driving by Walkley Nissan and thought we would just check...it couldn't hurt

The salesman pretty much completely ignores us. We tell him how much we have to spend including taxes and everything. His offer a car that is $5900 not including taxes. So we said se ya later. Checked out two personal sales. One seemed promising. Just as we get home my cell rings and it is the guy at Walkley Nissan. He has "just what we asked for" So we head over to Walkley Nissan test drive the car. It is dark and cold. Car drives well. Desperate for a car and this seeming like a great deal we say yes. Get everything started and he says: "just have to confirm everything with my manager" He comes back with "I made a calculation mistake" it's gonna be $500 more. So this is where everyone reading this says "walk out" In hindsight...that's what I should have done. Well, I should never have gone to a dealership in the first place, but anyways.... There was no way we were paying $500 more. We split the $500 and settled on $5550. Everything was a great experience up until the price change.

The salesman's name: Matt Pigeon

Hope this helps! Take care an ..

terrible car insurance experience

Hey everyone,

quite a while back I posted about my accident last January. I've been hesitating posting the experience with the insurance company. Mostly because I thought it was too late. Then I thought that if someone could be spared the experience with this information then it didn't matter how long ago the accident happened.

So last January fourth, I was rear ended by a pickup truck while I was stopped at a red light on Prince of Wales. I was quite surprised at how much I was jolted. I actually believe I blacked out for a few seconds. When I got out of the car I could see why I felt so jolted. The damage was extensive. My first thought was that it was totalled. Ottawa's finest police said it was safe to drive to the garage. So first things first, I went home to get a camera and Duana to drive me back home. Showed a few people the pictures that were taken and they believed that it might be fixable. The company was good to get me a rental. The rental company was expecting me so that experience was stress free. I went to the hospital to get checked out officially and also went to see a chiropractor. So far sounds not too bad right.

Well, after the garage has looked at the car, I forget how long, but I think it was just under two weeks, I get a call from the insurance company. They were making me an offer for the car and had to return the rental! WTF??? How long do I have to return the car? 24 hours....WTF? So I compain and they extend it by two days. Three days to find a replacement with the money the insrance is offering. I have no money in hand.... Who comes up with this crap?
The offer? Are you kidding me? $5300. Now, according to the prices on Auto Trader it sounds reasonable but still the company tries to screw me. Well, they succeed, but they screwed me less than they could have. They did factor that my dad was the original owner, oil changes done religiously. Few months before, complete fluid overhaul, 4 brand new tires, rustproofing, new fuel pu ..
